Who We Are

Background and Mission:

Becky's Fund is a national 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization focused on domestic violence awareness and education which was created by Becky Lee in 2006. Located in Washington D.C. in an office donated by the law firm of Wiltshire and Grannis, Becky's Fund began with a small goal to give support to those small domestic violence organizations working to serve battered women in marginalized and immigrant communities.

However, after speaking at conferences and meeting so many people who expressed an interest in finding ways to help the non-profit in ending domestic violence, Becky's Fund decided to expand its mission. Through its several innovated programs, approaches and partnerships that message is reaching men and women on college campuses, school children across the region, fans in ballparks, and Washington's leaders at dinner parties and fashionable events. Domestic violence is no stranger to any race of ethnicity; it knows no economic station, and Becky's Fund has found compelling ways to confront it in all of its forms and in all its hiding places.

Becky's Fund is a leader in education and awareness; it is also a source of hope. Bridging the abyss that prevents victims from leaving violent homes, Becky's Fund has begun to assemble a regional network of strategic partners to assist victims of violence. The resources include transportation providers, health and psychological care givers, hoteliers, lawyers, doctors, social workers and career counselors. The like-minded individuals are pulling together to form a safety net for victims without whom the economic, social and emotional barriers to leaving a violent home and to sustaining lives in a safe and secure environment cannot be overcome.

The mission of Becky's Fund is fourfold:

  1. Foster awareness: Help people understand the elements of domestic violence through education, such as its prevalence, why battered victims cannot always leave easily, and what can be done to fight against domestic violence.
  2. Encourage advocacy: Encourage people to care about and help put an end to domestic violence.
  3. Promote activism: Take an active role in helping battered victims find safety through counseling, education and legal representation.
  4. Create support: Provide support for victims of domestic violence.
