Becky's Fund strives to address domestic violence in all sectors of our community, establish prevention-based educational programs to counter domestic violence, and collaborate with others and the community in finding ways to change the behavior and thinking behind issues that cause and perpetuate domestic violence.

Programs:

Domestic Violence Education in School including Dating Violence and our National Domestic Violence College Tour

Domestic violence: Educating Our Youth

In 2004, Crayola conducted a survey of 1000 elementary school-aged children, the single largest concern among peers was violence and that would be the problem they would most like to "erase". Here at Becky's Fund, we want to provide children with the tools to build healthy relationships and gain the confidence to approach any situation in a non-violent way.

"Becoming Your Own Heroine: Lessons on Self-Empowerment and Dating Violence"

On January 23rd, Becky's Fund held a workshop for Girl Scouts in the DC area at the Mayflower hotel. The workshop focused on dating violence, healthy relationships, and self-esteem building. We incorporated arts, music and theater to address self-expression. We also taught the 9-18 year old girls what their rights are, both mentally and physically, including a self-defense demonstration and lesson. Becky's Fund is hoping to recreate this workshop all over the country. CLICK HERE for more information regarding the workshop.

Why aren't more schools teaching about domestic violence?

Domestic Violence College Tour

Due to the typical response of our community sweeping domestic violence under the rug, Becky's Fund specifically looked for a way to bring this issue out in the open. After being asked by many college students at conferences and other venues about what could be done to help end domestic violence, Becky's Fund realized how much more awareness and education about domestic violence was needed to combat the fight against domestic violence.

Since one of the best places to educate and make change for the future happens on college campuses, Becky's Fund has decided to launch a national college tour, incorporating a speaking tour starting at colleges with a pledge campaign to publicly fight against domestic violence with college students. These students will then take this project into the surrounding communities and make presentations to other civic organizations like community groups and churches.

College students are the next generation who are the role models and leaders of our future. Who better to encourage and incite than these college students who have the capacity to change our future and help bring domestic violence to an end?

In order to coordinate this campaign as successfully as possible, Becky's Fund hopes to reach as many students as possible and get them on board. We need your help! We are asking for your help in distributing this letter and information about the program to as many civic organizations, fraternities, sororities, conference organizers, and coalitions as possible. The more people we can get involved with this project, the greater likelihood that we can help bring domestic violence to an end.

Please email us for more information regarding this tour and schedule.
