Show Your Support for Domestic Violence Awareness Month!

Read here what Executive Director, Becky Lee, wrote in The Huffington Post as a response to an opinion written by Senator Joseph Biden on the bill he co-sponsored with Senator Arlen Spector called the Violence Against Women's Act (VAWA).

What are YOU doing for Domestic Violence Awareness Month?

One in three women in her lifetime in the United States will be abused whether it is physically, sexually, emotionally or financially. Women in every religious, cultural and socioeconomic group are affected. She could be your mother, your sister, your daughter, your friend. Maybe even you.

This year, October is more than Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM).  The next few weeks in our country are very critical as leadership changes hands.  While each of us has the opportunity to make an important choice in November, we can ALL influence how our nation protects the health and safety of millions of women and girls.

Whether you or someone you know has been abused, domestic violence is an issue that concerns all of us.  Stand up and make your voice heard.  As Gandhi once encouraged, "Be the change you wish to see in the world."

What you can do:

Dear Friends,

Domestic violence is a silent epidemic that does not discriminate against age, sex, race, religion, or social class. It is a silent epidemic that kills three women every day and exposes violence to 15 million children each year.  Sadly, young women between the ages of 16 and 24 years experience the highest rate of victimization.

The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and in support of it, Becky's Fund will hold a two week long photo campaign to spread awareness and give voices to the many silent victims in our community.  The success of this campaign can only be made possible with your help.  Becky's Fund asks you to take part in our photo campaign and help put an end to domestic violence. Please take a stand by cutting out a pledge bubble located on our website,

http://www.beckysfund.org/talk_bubble.pdf

and writing down why spreading the facts of domestic violence is important to you.  Please send your pictures of you and your bubble to becky@beckysfund.org starting tomorrow, Thursday, October 2 so we can post them on our website and our facebook site. The supporter who writes down the most meaningful quote will win a prize contingent on his/her location.

On Monday, October 13, Becky's Fund asks for your help in posting your pledge picture as your Facebook profile picture for two weeks, ending Friday, October 24.  The more pictures we have, the stronger our united front will be against domestic violence. Think of your picture as a message of hope for all the silent victims enduring their own personal battles.

Together we can put an end to domestic violence!

Sincerely,

Becky Lee

Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton Discuss Women's Issues

Domestic violence is a non-political issue that affects and crosses all races, religions, economic levels and political parties. With the approach of October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we would like to shine recognition on a hero in our cause, Senator and Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden, who authored the Violence Against Women Act of 1994. Here, he addresses women's issues with Senator Hillary Clinton and talks extensively about domestic violence in our society today.
